Biography
Josefina is a senior expert in the Chief Economist Team at the Directorate-General (DG) for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs of the European Commission. Josefina oversees the analytical work of the CET and is responsible for the external economic advisory program of the DG. The Chief Economist Team provides the DG with timely, robust and practical economic advice on Single Market and industrial policy matters.
Prior to that, Josefina was Head of Sector at the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs where she worked in the area of structural reforms and competitiveness. Before joining the European Commission, she was a trade economist at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC, and a professor of economics at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. Josefina holds a MA and a PhD in economics from UCSD, the University of California San Diego.
