Today, IAB Spain, an association representing the Spanish advertising sector in digital media, has signed up to the Memorandum of understanding on online advertising and intellectual property rights. It joins the 28 other stakeholders already working together under the agreement.
Facilitated by the European Commission, the Memorandum of understanding on online advertising and intellectual property rights (MoU) is a voluntary agreement to limit advertising on websites and mobile applications that infringe copyright or disseminate counterfeit goods.
The evaluation report on the functioning of the MoU (August 2020) shows that the MoU has already created awareness among brands that their ads may end up on IPR-infringing websites.
Signatories continue to exchange and promote good practice, and develop further new initiatives e.g. on technology and tools, cooperation at national, EU and global levels, and actions to be taken under the ‘Follow the money’ approach to IPR enforcement.
The MoU is open for new signatories. As broad cross-industry engagement is key for the success of the initiative, the European Commission encourages other companies and trade associations involved in the digital advertising supply chain to join the MoU in the future.
