Consultation on the role of the euro in trade of transport means

Objective of the consultation

The Commission will consult stakeholders to investigate possible actions to promote the use of the
euro by transport sector manufacturers (aircraft, maritime and railways). The consultation will
explore in a more detail the reasons why the euro is not used for many of the most relevant
international transactions and will help identifying conditions that would enable the promotion of
the euro in transactions with European businesses.

Key questions

  • What are the barriers to trading means (aircraft, maritime and railways) in euros?
  • What actions would increase trading raw materials (metals and minerals) in euros?
    • At EU level
    • At EU country level
    • At company level
    • At financial institutions/exchange level

Format of the consultation

A targeted e-survey among stakeholders through industrial associations.

Expected concrete output

A working document on the role of the euro in raw materials (metals and minerals).

Timeframe

The consultation will be launched mid-January 2019 and will be open until mid-April 2019.
