New implementing rules for craft and industrial geographical indications

Today, the implementing regulation for the protection of craft and industrial geographical indications was published in the Official Journal of the European Union. It will enter into application on 1 December 2025, when the scheme on craft and industrial geographical indications will kick off.

The regulation lays down detailed rules for the application of Regulation (EU) 2023/2411 on the protection of geographical indications for craft and industrial products, notably on the registration, amendment of the product specification and cancellation procedures, the Union register, the use of the Union symbol, fees, and the mutual assistance and cooperation between Member States in controls and enforcement.

This is an important step towards the launch of the new regime for the protection of geographically rooted craft and industrial products, on 1 December 2025.
