The Commission is marking the first anniversary of the Public Buyers Community Platform, a tool to help improve procurement practices across Europe. The platform is a space for European public procurers and the European Commission to meet and work together to actively advance public purchasing.
Over this first year, the platform became a key resource for over 250 000 EU public authorities who collectively spend a total of over €2 trillion yearly on the purchase of services, works and resources. These authorities are primary buyers in numerous key sectors including energy, transport, waste management, social protection and health or education services. Additionally, the platform serves research groups interested in improving public procurement data and practice.
The platform supports 20 Communities of Practice to facilitate collaboration in various strategic sectors and topics, ranging from construction, infrastructure, sustainable energy, to artificial intelligence and healthcare.
With a current membership of 1 400, the Public Buyers Community Platform has laid the groundwork for an efficient, transparent, and sustainable procurement ecosystem in the EU.
Practitioners from several EU member countries use it to share market insights, templates and best practices to purchase strategic resources in a greener and more ethical way, such as AI, photovoltaic panels and ICT. The platform is also a space for public authorities to discuss and align on challenges and objectives to be reached towards a more sustainable and efficient European procurement market.
The Public Buyers Community Platform is part of the European Commission’s strategy to improve public procurement in the EU by bringing together public authorities and other stakeholders.
