Today, the Commission, in close partnership with the Spanish Presidency and the Dutch Permanent Representation, organised the last Single Market Enforcement Taskforce (SMET) meeting of 2023.

The objective was to take stock of SMET's work on removing barriers and agreeing on the next steps. The focus of the discussions was on the flagship projects concerning cross-border provision of services and removing barriers to renewable energy permitting.

Good progress has been achieved by Member States in these two areas, but further effort is desirable to unleash the potential of the single market and to support the competitiveness of the EU economy.

Furthermore, taskforce members exploited the synergies between SMET and SOLVIT and reviewed the progress with the recently launched project on IBAN Discrimination.

Following the “Single market at 30 Communication”, the meeting gave also a good opportunity for an exchange about the concept of Single Market Office (SMO), with the objective of strengthening the national authorities dealing with single market related topics.

By facilitating a positive dialogue and collaboration, SMET plays a crucial role in improving the functioning of the single market and in contributing to the green and digital objectives.
