Single Market Enforcement Taskforce: tackling obstacles to providing cross-border services in renewable energy projects

Yesterday, the Commission hosted the first in-person Single Market Enforcement Task Force (SMET) meeting of 2023. The discussions focused on streamlining permitting procedures for renewable energy projects and removing barriers to cross-border provision of services. The two projects run in parallel with the upcoming proposal on the Critical Raw Materials and Net-Zero Industrial Acts, as well as the Commission’s communication on the Single Market at 30.

The meeting was an opportunity to exchange on administrative and skills barriers for investments in solar and wind energy installations, and to identify potential solutions and best practices in Member States. The SMET members also debated possible new SMET projects for the year ahead, focusing on supporting the twin transitions and competitiveness of the EU’s economy.

SMET is a high-level forum where the Commission and Member States work together on identified obstacles in the Single Market from the user’s perspective, businesses and citizens, and develop a thorough and consistent approach to tackle them at the national level. By fostering a constructive dialogue and cooperation, SMET is a key mechanism to address barriers and help unleash the potential of the Single Market.
