Description

This note provides an analytical contribution on the state of the single market 30 years after its establishment and the role of the single market as driver of EU resilience. It assesses developments in goods and services integration. In addition, progress in removing single market barriers is analysed, with a focus specifically on services. Finally, the paper explains the role of the single market as driver of EU resilience. The note highlights that the single market is a dynamic and ongoing process, with remaining challenges and opportunities notably in services. Further improving the functioning of the single market has the potential of increasing the effectiveness of policy actions to strengthen EU resilience and ensure the availability of critical goods and services.
