Introduction
The Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is a species of diphtheria nematocero belonging to the family Culicidae. The larvae of this species reach its viability in containers where small amounts of water exist, especially if they are found in shady places, such as jugs, buckets, vases, pot dishes and other objects containing water, in gardens, etc. In our environment, it is a mainly urban mosquito that systematically takes advantage of points with water of human origin for its reproduction.
In the countries where it has spread, as the private environment is a fundamental focus for the proliferation of the tiger mosquito, the Administration's action is not effective, in addition to being difficult and very expensive, forcing the action of individuals with a view to the eradication of this pest. Therefore, it has been detected the need to develop a device that allows individuals to fight this type of pest simply and effectively, without posing a risk to human health.
This project proposes to deposit the substance or more preferably the Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) in a hydrophilic layer, of a material that can be natural or synthetic. The substance can also be encapsulated, so that its release from the hydrophilic layer is slowed down over time, increasing the duration of the effects of the device. The device configuration and related products are under Patent protection (patent application number U202030413).
The device proposed is designed to be applied by the general public in domestic ambient (first control point to be considered to fight the mosquito).
Objectives
The project aims to respond to the market's need to control the expansion of an invasive species, the Asian tiger mosquito. For its realization, a device based on the use of a combination of fabrics and nonwovens is proposed, which implies a diversification of this type of articles towards the pest control sector (currently no textiles or non-wovens are used for this use).
