Other cooperation activities

The Chief Economist and Business Intelligence team also participates in other collaborative initiatives with other European Commission services and external partners.

The European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) compares innovation systems across EU countries, other European nations and neighbouring states. Our team is closely involved in the coordination and guidance of the project, under the leadership of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation. The project also includes regional performance assessments through the Regional Innovation Scoreboard (RIS).

We have teamed up with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to gain more insights into the supply chains of EU firms. To that end, starting in 2023, the EIB complemented its annual EIB Investment Survey, which collects firm-level data on overall investment trends, with a dedicated survey module on supply chains. Findings are published in an annual report.

In partnership with the OECD, we have been exploring the use of VAT transaction data to analyse supply chains and production networks. Building on this work, the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs and the OECD are establishing the 'Leveraging Inter-Firm Transactions (LIFT)' network to bring together authorities and experts to advance the use of such data and enable the reconstruction of cross-border supply chains.
