The European Commission has selected Turin as the European Capital of Smart Tourism 2025 and Benidorm as this year's European Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism. These cities were selected for their exceptional achievements in accessibility, sustainability, digital innovation, and cultural heritage.
Out of 37 destinations across 16 countries, Turin and Benidorm distinguished themselves with their forward-thinking and sustainable tourism strategies. The winning cities will receive communication and branding support, including for creating a promotional video, installing a hashtag sculpture in the city, and implementing tailored promotional campaigns to increase their visibility in both the EU and at global level.
They will also become part of the European network of smart and sustainable tourist destinations, which enables cities to share expertise and innovative practices through workshops and a guide.
The European Capital of Smart Tourism competition promotes smart tourism in the EU by rewarding cities for their innovative approaches to accessibility, digitalisation, sustainability, and cultural heritage and creativity.
The European Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism competition celebrates smaller destinations with successful strategies for sustainable tourism through green practices. Both award-winning cities will serve as inspirational models for smart and sustainable travel in Europe.
