Description
To boost prosperity, the EU ensures secure, sustainable, and innovative access to raw materials through domestic resources, strategic partnerships, recycling, and circular economy initiatives. We are setting the global standard for responsible sourcing. When it comes to raw materials, Europe means business; Europe is a powerhouse.
The 2024 Raw Materials Week, the EU’s largest policy event on raw materials, took place from 9 to 13 December in Brussels. Organised by the European Commission, it attracted a record 1,400+ participants from industry, government, civil society, research, and academia. The event welcomed high-level guests, including Executive Vice-President Stéphane Séjourné, Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, and Commissioner Jozef Síkela, alongside members of the European Parliament, ministers, state secretaries, and representatives from public and private banks. Industry experts, students, and European Commission officials also contributed valuable insights to these key discussions.
This year’s Raw Materials Week featured 240+ speakers from key sectors such as raw materials, batteries, digital technologies, defence, and space. Over 35 sessions, experts tackled critical topics, including de-risking raw material projects with EU and national funding, advancing technological innovation, strengthening domestic supply chains, and improving circularity with rare earth permanent magnets. They also explored market trends, underscored the importance of high environmental and social standards, and highlighted the need for cooperation with strategic international partners.
This event provided a unique platform to examine the dynamic and evolving raw materials landscape in Europe and beyond.
