Today, the European Commission published the first initiatives supporting the green and digital transition of the EU chemical industry. This is a key milestone in co-implementing the transition pathway for the chemical industry.
We launched a call for transition initiatives in July 2023. Major European companies, trade associations, SMEs and other stakeholders showed a high interest in presenting their projects to transform the EU chemical sector.
In a few months, we collected and reviewed more than 80 concrete actions which will help make Europe a more modern, resilient, and climate-neutral economy. Around half of the initiatives focus on safe and sustainable chemicals, alternatives to fossil fuels, green technologies such as hydrogen and electrification, and digitalisation.
Further initiatives are in the pipeline and will be published on an ongoing basis as they are reviewed by the Commission and their submitters. In the meantime, businesses and organisations will continue to have the opportunity to tell us about what they are doing and plan to do for a more sustainable and competitive EU chemical industry.
Please see our dedicated page for more information on the call and transition pathway. You can also see the current list of initiatives.
