The new regulation will allow consumers and companies, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to buy and sell products and services online more easily across the EU.
Cross-border parcel delivery services are vital for e-commerce and are essential to make the Single Market work for citizens and businesses. By increasing price transparency and improving regulatory oversight, the legislators are tackling the barriers people face when trying to buy online and we are helping to create a true Single Market.
The regulation on parcel delivery is one of 3 pillars of the Commission's efforts to boost e-commerce in the EU, together with rules on consumer protection and unjustified geo-blocking that have already been adopted.
The regulation now has to be adopted by the Council. It will then enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU and will be fully applicable in 2019.
