Single Market Task Force continues to tackle barriers in the single market

The Task Force, created in 2020, gathers the Commission and Member State representatives to work together on removing obstacles and ensuring people and businesses can travel, live and do business in the EU. Today’s report covers the work completed over 2021 and highlights the important role SMET has played in removing specific restrictions and improving the functioning of the single market.

In particular, the report focuses on the work of the Task Force on streamlining of administrative requirements for cross-border service providers and removing prior checks for professionals carrying out temporary and occasional services in other Member States. The task force has also launched a new initiative to accelerate the streamlining of permitting procedures for the deployment of renewable energy projects across EU Member States. This project is of a particular relevance to current discussions on increasing Europe’s deployment of renewable energy in the context of the RePowerEU, especially in the light of rising energy prices, the need to improve the EU’s energy autonomy and deliver on commitment to complete a green and sustainable industrial transition. The SMET report 2021-2022 will be presented to the EU Ministers during the Competitiveness Council, taking place on 1 December 2022.
