Textiles: Stakeholders take concrete steps to make the ecosystem greener, more digital and to increase its resilience and competitiveness

Today, the Commission published today first batch of 110 pledges under the transition pathway for the textiles ecosystem, showing the strong interest and willingness of stakeholders to contribute to the transition of this ecosystem.

The pledges cover all 8 sections of the transition pathway, showcasing many actions by stakeholders to make the textiles ecosystem more sustainable, circular and digital, as well as to ensure adequate skills.

The pledges include promoting sustainable fashion and reshaping consumption patterns, offering repairs, customer-to-customer sales and the possibility of donating used clothing, support for building up facilities to recycle textile waste, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, collaboration for dedicated research and innovation frameworks for textiles, up/reskilling activities, support for the implementation of the Pact for Skills for the textiles ecosystem, as well as increasing female representation in management positions.

Following the publication of the transition pathway in June 2023, the Commission called on stakeholders to share concrete actions to help co-implement the transition pathway and work together towards a greener, more digital, resilient and competitive EU textiles, clothing, leather and footwear industry.
