In March 2025, the Transition pathway for the European metals sectors was published. Co-developed by metals industry stakeholders, NGOs and other interested parties, as well as with the European Commission and EU countries, it identifies a number of actions and conditions to contribute to achieve the green and digital transitions and improve resilience in the metals industry, in line with the updated EU industrial strategy.
The metals industry has been the backbone of EU industry for centuries and it plays a key role in the European twin transition and is one of the industries mentioned in the Clean industrial Deal for immediate sector specific actions. Metals are at the basis of Europe’s major value chains, including automotive, construction, machinery, and are essential for defence. In addition, the metals industry is the largest industrial CO2 emitter in the EU.
The Transition pathway for the European metals sectors provides a list of more than 60 actions, grouped under 15 topics.
